The Chipotle Menu: Every Item, What It Costs and Why That Varies

The Chipotle menu is smaller than it looks. There are four entree formats, one of which is digital-only, and they are all the same build with the same ingredients — which means they are all the same price for a given protein. What actually changes your bill is the protein you pick and the city you are standing in. Here is every item, what drives the price, and why no honest page can give you a single national figure.

Quick Answer

Chipotle has four entree formats — burrito, burrito bowl, salad and an order of three tacos — plus a digital-only quesadilla. For any given protein all four cost the same. The protein sets the price: sofritas and veggie match chicken, carnitas is about $0.75 more, and steak and barbacoa about $2.00 more. Prices then vary by restaurant, because Chipotle prices market by market.

🎯 Key Takeaways
  • Burrito, bowl, salad and three tacos cost the same for a given protein.
  • The quesadilla is digital-only — app or website, never the counter.
  • Steak and barbacoa run about $2.00 above chicken.
  • Sofritas and veggie are priced like chicken, and veggie includes guacamole.
  • There is no national Chipotle price. Chipotle prices region by region.
  • Delivery costs about 30% more on the food alone, before fees.

The Four Entree Formats

Everything at Chipotle is the same build in a different container. Chipotle own menu descriptions:

Format Chipotle own description Calories
Burrito Flour tortilla with a choice of cilantro-lime rice, black or pinto beans, meat, salsa, and cheese or sour cream 740–1,210
Burrito bowl Just like a burrito, but served in a bowl with no tortilla 420–910
Salad Chopped romaine lettuce, baby kale and baby spinach, with choice of beans, meat, salsa, cheese and chipotle-honey vinaigrette 420–910
Tacos Your choice of three crispy corn or soft flour tortillas with meat, salsa, cheese or sour cream and romaine lettuce 390–1,140
Quesadilla Digital-only — app or website, never at the counter Varies by build
All four cost the same for a given protein. A chicken burrito, a chicken bowl, a chicken salad and three chicken tacos are the same price. The only thing the format changes is the calories — and that is almost entirely the tortilla, which adds 320 calories and 600mg of sodium on its own.

The quesadilla being digital-only is the one that catches people out. It cannot be ordered at the till, which is also why it is excluded from in-restaurant promotions like Boorito. Our online menu guide lists everything that is app-only, and our entree definition guide explains why that distinction decides whether offers apply.

Proteins, and What They Add

The protein is what sets your price. The differentials below held identical across four large-metro restaurants sampled in late October 2026, which makes them far more portable than any absolute figure:

Protein Price relative to chicken Calories / 4 oz Protein Sodium
Chicken Base price 180 32 g 310 mg
Sofritas Same as chicken 150 8 g 560 mg
Veggie Same as chicken — and guacamole is included Varies Varies Varies
Pollo Asado (limited time) About +$0.60 Not published — —
Carnitas About +$0.75 210 23 g 450 mg
Steak About +$2.00 150 21 g 330 mg
Barbacoa About +$2.00 170 24 g 530 mg

Three things worth taking from that table:

  • Chicken is the base price and has the most protein — 32g per 4 oz, more than any other option. It is the only item on the menu that is simultaneously the cheapest and the best on macros.
  • Steak is the leanest at 150 calories, but it is the lowest-protein meat at 21g and costs about $2.00 more.
  • Veggie is quietly the best value, because guacamole is included at no charge rather than being a separate upcharge.

Smoked brisket returns on 5 November 2026 as a limited-time protein — Chipotle has not published its price. Our brisket guide has the detail, and the full rotation is on our limited-time items guide.

Why There Is No National Price

This is the part most menu pages get wrong, and Chipotle has explained it itself.

Chipotle prices market by market, deliberately. Its CFO Adam Rymer told investors in July 2026 that the company rolls increases out market by market, region by region as we like to go, because it allows us to measure resistance more precisely and adjust if necessary. There is no national price list to publish, so any page quoting one exact national figure is quoting an average at best.

What that looks like in practice. A chicken entree sampled at four large-metro restaurants in late October 2026:

City Chicken entree Steak / barbacoa
Chicago, IL about $9.35 about $11.35
Houston, TX about $9.50 about $11.50
Los Angeles, CA about $10.50 about $12.50
New York, NY about $11.50 about $13.50

That is a 23 per cent spread on the same item across four cities, and smaller markets run lower still. Check your own restaurant in the Chipotle app — it is the only figure that applies to you, and these are a sample rather than a price list.

Chipotle 2026 price increases, in its own words

Chipotle guided to a 1 to 2 per cent menu price increase across 2026 — below its own expected inflation and below the industry average. Its CFO gave the running total on the July 2026 earnings call: about 0.7 per cent in the first quarter, about 1.6 per cent in the second, expected to reach the mid 2 per cent range in the third, landing near the high end of the 1% to 2% range we communicated earlier this year.

The Delivery Markup

Chipotle charges more for the same food on delivery, and it says so in its own footnotes: higher menu prices are charged for delivery; additional service and other fees apply at checkout as well.

Measured across Chipotle own published pickup and delivery prices in late October 2026, the food alone ran about 30 per cent higher on delivery — before any delivery fee, service fee or tip.

One detail almost nobody reports. Those additional service and other fees do not apply in California, Colorado, Connecticut, Massachusetts, Minnesota or Virginia. That is in Chipotle own offer footnotes. If you are in one of those six states, delivery costs you the menu markup but not the extra fees.

A caution on figures you will see elsewhere: the widely quoted 13 per cent delivery markup comes from 2021 and is no longer accurate. Third-party apps are higher again, because they add their own markup on top. Our delivery fee guide separates the charges.

What Is Actually Free

Free Charged
All four salsas Guacamole on a meat entree
Fajita vegetables Queso Blanco
Romaine lettuce Extra protein
Extra rice, extra beans Chips and sides
Double-wrapping a burrito Drinks
Guacamole on veggie and sofritas A tortilla on the side (small charge)

The free guacamole on veggie and sofritas is the single most useful thing on this page for anyone watching cost — it is the one build where Chipotle most expensive topping is included as standard. Our guacamole cost guide and off-menu requests guide cover the rest.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is on the Chipotle menu?

Four entree formats built from the same ingredients: a burrito, a burrito bowl, a salad, and an order of three tacos. There is also a hand-crafted quesadilla, which is only orderable through the Chipotle app or website. Into any of those go a rice, a bean, a protein, salsas and toppings. Sides are chips, chips with guacamole or queso, and drinks.

How much is a Chipotle bowl?

It depends on your protein and your city, and Chipotle publishes no national price. The structure is consistent though: a bowl costs the same as a burrito, a salad or three tacos with the same protein. Chicken, sofritas and veggie sit at the base price, carnitas runs roughly $0.75 above it, and steak and barbacoa roughly $2.00 above. In late October 2026 a chicken entree ranged from roughly $9.35 in Chicago to $11.50 in New York City.

Why are Chipotle prices different in different cities?

Because Chipotle prices deliberately that way. Its CFO Adam Rymer told investors in July 2026 that the company rolls price increases out market by market, region by region, because it allows us to measure resistance more precisely and adjust if necessary. So there is no single national price list to publish, and any site quoting one exact national figure is giving you an average at best.

Is a burrito cheaper than a bowl at Chipotle?

No, they are the same price. The burrito, the burrito bowl, the salad and an order of three tacos all cost the same for a given protein. The only difference is the tortilla, which adds 320 calories and 600mg of sodium to a burrito. If you want the cheapest way to eat more, ask for a bowl with a tortilla on the side, which is a small extra charge.

Does Chipotle charge more for delivery?

Yes, twice over. Chipotle own footnotes state that higher menu prices are charged for delivery, and that is separate from the delivery fee and service fee added at checkout. Measured across Chipotle published pickup and delivery prices in late October 2026, the food itself ran about 30 per cent higher on delivery. The service fees do not apply in California, Colorado, Connecticut, Massachusetts, Minnesota or Virginia.

What is free at Chipotle?

All four salsas, fajita vegetables, romaine lettuce, extra rice, extra beans, and double-wrapping a burrito. Guacamole is free on veggie and sofritas entrees only. Everything else that sounds like an extra — guacamole on a meat entree, queso, extra protein — is charged.

What is the cheapest thing on the Chipotle menu?

Among entrees, the base-priced proteins: chicken, sofritas and veggie all sit at the same lowest price point. The veggie bowl is arguably the best value of the three because guacamole is included at no charge, which is a real saving over adding it to a chicken bowl. Three crispy corn tacos is the same price again and carries zero sodium from the shells.

Has Chipotle raised prices in 2026?

Yes, modestly and in stages. Chipotle guided to a 1 to 2 per cent menu price increase across 2026, which is below its own expected inflation and below the industry average. Its CFO said pricing was about 0.7 per cent in the first quarter, about 1.6 per cent in the second, and expected to reach the mid 2 per cent range in the third, landing near the high end of that 1 to 2 per cent range for the full year.

Methodology

Menu structure, item descriptions, portion sizes and all calorie figures on this page are taken from Chipotle own US nutrition facts menu and its published ingredient statement. Pricing structure is described rather than tabulated as national figures, because Chipotle publishes no national price list and its pricing service is not publicly readable – it prices market by market, which its own executives have described on earnings calls. The protein upcharge differentials quoted here held identical across four large-metro restaurants sampled in late October 2026; absolute prices in your own city will differ and should be checked in the Chipotle app. Chipotle states that nutritional content varies with portion size, recipe, growing season and ingredient source.
